National Peace Council of Sri Lanka conducted a workshop on 'The Power and Limits of Pluralism in Sri Lanka' in Kurunegala. The event took place at Hotel Bluesky in the Kurunegalle Town on the 22nd of August, 2009.

The event was structured into four sessions, the first being introduction of the objectives to participants, second on ‘understanding Pluralism’, third on ‘Issues and Proposed strategies for promoting pluralism in Kurunegala’ and fourth and the final being evaluation of the program.
The first session started at 9.00 a.m. with Mr. Arham Mohamed and Ms. Badra  Wickramasinghe welcoming and registering the participants. Mr. S.P.Nathan, Executive National Coordinator of NPC, spoke next to the participants, explained the objectives of the program and the role of NPC in promoting Pluralism.  The session then broke for tea.

Second session on started with a presentation on ‘Understanding Pluralism’ that gave a historical perspective. Dr. Sasanka Perera, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Sociology, University of Colombo, gave the presentation and clarified various doubts and questions by participants.
Mr. S. G Punchihewa, Attorney at Law, spoke next on Promotion of Pluralistic Values. He explained the concept of Energetic Engagement through Diversity and discussed the various finer points of diversity with participants.

After lunch, Mr. Nathan and Mr. Mohamed conducted the session on ‘Issues and Proposed strategies for promoting pluralism in Kurunegala’ started. A group discussion was held to identify issues in Kurunegala regarding Pluralism, and proposals to promote the same were solicited and recorded. The groups presented the proposals themselves entitled ‘Strategies for adoption to promote Pluralism’. Action committees were formed to follow up on the suggestions.

In the final session, participants evaluated the program and handed over their recordings to the committee. The program concluded with Vote of Thanks.
