The National Peace Council wishes to express its gratitude to the donors who have contributed generously to our Flood Relief Fund. The amount collected so far is Rs 3,482,204 (approx. USD 11,250) from 16 donors. We appreciate very much your affection and commitment to Sri Lanka and its people in the context of competing demands for your philanthropy.

The disaster that struck Sri Lanka on November 28, 2025 will need several months of relief and reconstruction. The latest UN update states: New geospatial analysis from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) shows floodwaters from the cyclone inundated more than 1.1 million hectares – almost 20 percent of the country’s land area – and caused significant damage to homes, infrastructure and essential services.

The floodwaters reached nearly 720,000 buildings, about one in every twelve buildings in the country. Over 643 persons died with over a hundred remaining missing. In the country’s hilly inland, the cyclone triggered around 1,200 landslides. These events can isolate at-risk communities by disrupting access to essential services such as health care and slowing rescue operations.

NPC plans to utilize the funds it has raised to support the education of children. We have not committed any funds so far as we are looking for more funds. Although NPC is not a traditional relief organization, in the past we raised funds for Covid relief work and implemented our activities through our network of locally based inter-religious committees in cooperation with the government authorities in those areas.

The bank account details follow. Please give your name on your donation so that we can acknowledge your donation with an official NPC receipt. We will also keep you updated about how we spent the money.
